FC Club (Beijing) Events 2008

Tuesday 23 December

FC Club Media, Business and Finance Social Networking Evening.

This was a joint FC Club and IsCham Media, Business & Finance Social Networking Evening.

This special Media, Business and Finance Social Networking Evening brought together Entrepreneurs, Businesspeople and people who work in Finance, Banking, Consulting, Real Estate, and Investment with the Media and Media related industries.

The FC Club provides a multi-cultural hub of connectivity to meet people with a common desire. Ischam, the recently launched Israeli Chamber of Commerce in China, helps not only to bring Israel's internationally respected agriculture, high tech, med tech, water and additional industry’s innovations and expertise to China but also Israel's myriad of business people and entrepreneurs. In short these nights provide a unique platform for you to potentially make the connection that will take you and your business to new heights.

Tuesday 9 December

FC Club Career Development - Headhunter Social Networking Evening.

This was the last in a series of monthly Career Development-Headhunter evenings held in the Zeta Bar. We thank the Zeta Bar for hosting us during the whole of 2008 and look forward to returning to this venue in the near future with some additional events. The Zeta Bar, although being one of our favourite venues, is too small for the number of participants at these events.

The pictures from this event are courtesy of Patrick Sullivan.

Tuesday 25 November

FC Club Business and Finance Social Networking Evening.

This event was held at the at the “D” Bar.(Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel).

153 people attended the event people all of whom were once again delighted with the venue. There was a large number of people from the Financial Sector as well as representatives from a number of Chambers of Commerce and/or Commercial Sections of embassies. Much too our surprise there was also an unusually high number of people from the Media sector.

We thank the Luck Draw sponsors that included: a 300RMB voucher for an authentic Tuscan dining experience at Fratelli Fresh & Wine Bar, a 200RMB Voucher for Elements Fresh and cash vouchers from C. de France – Your luxury stop for the latest trends in hairstyling, beauty and makeup in the heart of Sanlitun.

Tuesday 11 November

FC Club Career Development – Headhunter Social Networking Evening at the Zeta Bar (Hilton, Beijing).

We were amazed to beat last month's record high of 188 participants. This event was attended by 205 people proving that the combined strengths of the FC Club, our Media Partner City Weekend and our sponsors Beijing Playhouse and China Expert International Ltd. ensure well attended and memorable nights.

Beijing Playhouse's a capella group "Under Broadway" provided a brief musical interlude and we were delighted to be able to offer two tickest to the Elton John - Tim Rice musical AIDA as prizes for the Lucky Draw.

Saturday 8 November

FC Club Netbonding Day Trip Sat. 8 November to Jinhaihu Lake.

Forget the hustle and bustle of an urban Beijing Day
Relax, unwind and have some fun the FC Club way.

It was a bit chilly but a very relaxing day was enjoyed by all the participants.

Jinhaihu Lake
is located in Pinggu County, 85km Beijing City Centre and is the 3rd largest reservoir in Beijing.

The lake is enclosed on 3 sides by Dajin Mountain range forming a magnificent picturesque view. This time of year is considered to be the optimum since diverse red and brown hues and shades of red and brown can be seen as the trees shed their summer clothing and prepare for the coming winter.

This FC Club event was organised by our partner (and friend) West China Tours.

Tuesday 28 October

FC Club Business and Finance Social Networking Evening.

This event was held on Tuesday 28 October from 7:30pm at the “D” Bar.(Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel) and was attended by 145 people.

We received very positive feedback both about the useful contacts that were made and the decision to use this venue. The D-Bar is not your average hotel bar. It is more of a destination, high-end, cool & sophisticated club. The sleek modern design makes it the place to see and be seen in the city. It is of course the quality of the people attending that is the key to our success since networking is a skill, not just a cheap thrill.

Beijing Playhouse's Under Broadway a cappella group provided a brief musical interlude with two songs and we were delighted to be able to offer two tickets, each valued 880RMB, to the Disney - Elton John & Time Rice musical AIDA as the top Lucky Draw prize for the evening.

Our Media Partner was City Weekend and our sponsors for this evening were China Expert International Ltd and The Beijing Playhouse - China's English Broadway Theatre.

A record 188 participants used this evening as a unique platform to make connections and as a career booster.

Tuesday 23 September

FC Club Business and Finance Social Networking Evening.

This month's Business & Finance Social Networking Evening was held in the Zeta Bar, Hilton Beijing.

The Zeta Bar is normally the home of our Career Development - Headhunter evenings but for technical reasons this Business and Finance event was also held here.

This evening provided both a multi-cultural hub of connectivity to meet people with a common desire and a relaxing atmosphere in which to enter into a dialogue and to entertain different perspectives.

Saturday 20 September

FC Club Netbonding Day Trip Sat. 20 Sept

To Jimingyi and a Winery for tasting and viewing.

This was our most successful Netbonding day trip to date.

Morning: Visit an ancient Post City – aka Jimingyi (Rooster Crow Post Station).

Hundreds of years ago, people were relocated here in order to establish a post station - to receive and transfer messages in and out of the fortress.

Stone tablet records show that China’s official postal system started150 years earlier than that of Europe. The village is still encircled by (nearly) complete walls and maintains most of the original architecture, temples, and costumes. It is reminiscent of Pingyao but has not yet suffered the trials and tribulations of mass tourism.

1n 2005, the World Cultural Heritage Fund listed the Post City as one of the World’s 100 Endangered Cultural Heritage.

Lunch: At Guanting Reservoir with a view of the lake and vineyards.

Afternoon: A tour of the vineyard and the winery, including viewing the wine making process and tasting several of the chateau’s representative wines. The explanation included how to recognize different types of wines, classification of wines and wine specific vocabulary.

This FC Club event was organised by our partner (and friend) West China Tours.

Tuesday 9 September

FC Club Career Development – Headhunter Social Networking Evening

Tuesday 9 Sept 2008 at the Zeta Bar (Hilton, Beijing)
A FC Club Career Development – Headhunter Social Networking Evening, and Sunday 14 Sept at Solana’s Water Bar and Restaurant for afternoon tea to collect your 26 August and 9 September photos (courtesy of Patrick Sullivan) and to use Solana’s magnificent settings for a photo shoot.

The combined strengths of the FC Club, our Media Partner City Weekend and our sponsors Beijing Playhouse and China Expert International Ltd. made this a night to remember. However, not that many people took advantage of the photo op.

Tuesday 26 August

FC Club Business and Finance Social Networking Evening.

This month’s Business & Finance Social Networking Evening was held on Tuesday 26 August from 7:30pm at the J.W. Marriott’s Loong Bar.

Our Entrepreneur, Business and Finance Social Networking Evenings bring together Entrepreneurs, Businesspeople and people who work in Finance, Banking, Consulting, Real Estate, and Investment. These evenings provide an opportunity to meet that person who might be the fulcrum to your next, or new, endeavour.

Tuesday 22 July

FC Club Business and Finance Social Networking Evening.

The FC Club has pleasure in inviting you to join our unrivalled networking and netbonding events.

The July Business & Finance Social Networking Evening was held on Tuesday 22 July from 7:30pm at the J.W. Marriott’s Loong Bar.

The event once again exceeded expectations with 130 participants. Approximately 55% were Chinese and 45% were foreigners and based on feedback that we received a large number of useful contacts were made. The quality of the people attending our events continues to be the key to our success since networking is a skill, not just a cheap thrill.

As usual we wish to thank City Weekend our Media Partners and Patrick Sullivan our volunteer photographer. All photos (below) are courtesy of Patrick.

Tuesday 8 July

FC Club Career Development – Headhunter Social Networking Evening.

130 people participated in this evening and including multiple representatives from 13 Headhunter / Exec Search companies.

C de France kindly donated a generous prize of vouchers and L'Oreal products for the Lucky Draw .

We would like to take this opportunity to remind one and all that the Early Bird Discount offers for the FC Club events normally expire 24 hours prior to the event.

As usual pictures courtesy of Patrick Sullivan whose new camera and flash are providing an even better quality of photographs.

FC Club Entrepreneur, Business and Finance Social Networking Evening. Tuesday 24 June

This month’s Entrepreneurs, Business & Finance Social Networking Evening was on Tuesday 24 June and once again exceeded expectations.

The JW Marriott again kindly consented to host this event in their Loong Bar. However, this month was different. We replaced the traditional Happy Hour (50% of selected drinks) with a new concept, The Power Hour (all house/standard drinks at only 28 RMB). This proved to be very popular with the participants and we will repeat it.

On a personal note, based on the quality of the people present, I think that this must have been one of our best events. I know I had some very interesting conversations.

This event was sponsored by the Eton Montessori Teacher Training Academy. Earn your Montessori Teaching Credential through the American Montessori Society in a Teacher Education Program Accredited by MACTE (Montessori Accreditation Council on Teacher Education).

The Second FC Club Netbonding Day Trip: Saturday June 21 to Shidu

These events are for FC Club members (and friends) that appreciate that true Networking and Netbonding is based on shared interests and experiences. Our second event was even more successful than our first and we had to organise a larger coach than originally anticipated.

This Netbonding event was prepared with the assistance of Ms. Caroline Zheng from West China Tours www.westchina.net.cn

Destination: Shidu.

Cost 260RMB,

Meeting Point: Outside the Hilton

Time: 9:30am

Date: Sat, 21 June 2008

Shidu is often referred to as the ‘mini River Li” (Guilin and Yangshuo) and is considered to have the most beautiful waterscape in suburban Beijing. We believe that you too will find that the combination of the calm, winding Juma River and the pretty, green mountains that straddle it justify this reputation.

This FC Club event has been organised by our partner (and friend) West China Tours. The day included a bamboo raft cruise, a barbecue party banquet awaits us. In addition to delicious kebabs, the barbecue included local fresh roasted trout and vegetables.

After lunch the group decided to visit an amazing stalactite cave whose entrance is only by boat.

Tuesday 10 June

FC Club Career Development – Headhunter Social Networking Evening.
Tuesday 10 June 2008

This well attended evening was very kindly sponsored by EMMTA (Eton Montessori Teachers Training Association)

They too discovered that these evenings are an amazing platform for to forge new connections and to become visible. They used the evening as a unique platform both to help advertise the advantages of enrolling in their Teacher training Programme and to promote enrollment in their schools.

The event was held at the Zeta Bar, Hilton Beijing and as usual we were delighted to have City Weekend as our Media Sponsor.

Tuesday 27 May: FC Club Entrepreneur, Business and Finance Social Networking Evening.

Tuesday 27 May witnessed the FC Club's May Entrepreneurs, Business & Finance Social Networking Evening. Over one hundred people attended this event many of whom generously contributed to the Sichuan earthquake relief efforts by purchasing a copy of the tragically misnamed book “Dujiangyan: In harmony with nature”. The books were sold at 200RMB of which 198RMB/book was donated. The books will also be on sale at the coming events.

Saturday 17 May.

The FC Club's Fun Spring Day

FC Club Outdoors. It’s more than Networking. It's Netbonding!

The 17 May 2008 saw the launch of the FC Club’s Outdoor Networking events.

A coach full of adventurous FC Clubbers braved a weather forecast that predicted light showers and set of to have a Fun Spring Day. The day was a complete success with even the weather bending an ear to our requests for a great day.

It is hard to define what was THE highlight of the day for there were many. For some doubtlessly it was the firecracker sellers, for others the boating, and for others the selection of local delicacies that we had for lunch. My personal favourite was the fact that I/We had a full day to chat and get to know each other even better.

This type of event will be repeated on a regular basis and I am sure that they will become as highly popular as our networking events.

This event was prepared with the assistance of Ms. Coco Zheng from Travel New China.

Our itinerary included a delicious local village meal prepared from fresh farm produce (from the field to the table with no harmful “food miles”) at a second floor restaurant that provided an interesting view of a non-commercialised section of the Great Wall (climbing was not-included in the programme). We then continued to the Lakeside Great Wall scenic area where we took a leisurely stroll, took countless photographs and then went boating prior to returning to the coach via the (Colin named) Echo Dam.

Tuesday 13 May FC Club Career Development- Headhunter Social Networking Evening.

This event, held at the Hilton's Zeta Bar was attended by 169 people.

The event took place only one day after a massive earthquake struck Sichuan.

The earthquake measured 7.9 on the Richter Scale.

Despite the fact that the precise extent of the damage was not yet known the FC Club already alert to the magnitude of the tragedy contacted the charity "Operation Blessing" and, under its auspices, organised a donation box to start collecting contributions of earthquake relief work and to start to raise awareness of the scale of the destruction.

The process of healing the physical and psychological damage to the devastated communities of the area will be a long-term project.

China Expert International and The FC Club will be only too happy to provide information on Charity Organisations that are active in that area to anyone who wants to contribute to the relief work.

We will be continuing to assist the relief work at future events.

Once again we wish to thank our team of volunteers for contributing both to the success of the evening from a Social and Networking aspect and in their help in collecting donations.

29 April 2008

FC Club Entrepreneur, Business and Finance Social Networking Evening.

This great event was held at the J.W Marriott's Loong Bar and was attended by 90 people. They seized this opportunity to make friends and some great career contacts.

This evening brought bring together Entrepreneurs, Businesspeople and people who work in Finance, Banking, Consulting, Real Estate, and Investment.

The J.W Marriott generously supplied an incredible selection of delicious snacks and with Solid Vodka's help our complimentary drink list was upgraded to include a number of Solid Vodka based cocktails.

8 April 2008

FC Club 8 April 2008

FC Club Career Development- Headhunter Social Networking Evening.

This event was held at the Hilton's Zeta Bar and was attended by 168 people.

Connections were made and on the basis of an informal survey of attendees it was decided to finalise our plans for our first Outdoor Networking event. It is scheduled for Saturday 17 May.

The four bottles of boutique Australian Wines donated by Gelipu Wines made the Lucky Draw even more popular then usual. Hopefully they will donate similar great wines for future events.

Unfortunately our regular volunteer photographer Mr. Patrick Sullivan had to send a last-minute substitute. Hence the pictures are not of the normal quality.

25 March 2008

FC Club 25 March 2008

FC Club Entrepreneur, Business and Finance Social Networking Evening.

This was a double first event for us.

The first Business and Finance event and the first time that we used the JW Marriott's Loong bar. Both were proved to be good decisions.

The event was attended by 122 people who all seemed to be very happy with both the new venue and the new theme.

We were privileged to have the hotel's General Manager, Mr. Franco Io, as one of our guests. He During the course of the evening he added two extra prizes for the Lucky Draw. Our top prize was a set of vouchers and L'Oreal products donated by C de France.

The photos are courtesy of Mr. Patrick Sullivan.

City Weekend

FC Club Career Development – Headhunter Social Networking Evening.
A new record high attendance was set!!
172 people attended this event. Obviously the 5 Feb event meal did not adversely affect the numbers :). Let’s see what will happen in March when, in addition to our signature Career Development-Headhunter Social Networking evening there will also be an Entrepreneur, Business and Finance Social Networking evening.

Top Cellar were kind enough to contribute two bottles of wine as prizes for the Lucky Draw and to offer free 10% Discount cards for their three shops. Rumi also provide two cash vouchers for Rumi Persian Grill and one time 10% discount vouchers.

City Weekend

FC Club Career Development – Headhunter Social Networking Evening.
A great start to the year!!
Despite the fact that many were still on holiday or only just returned from their Christmas vacation 130 people attended the January Social Networking Evening. Rumi Persian Grill was kind enough to double the Lucky Draw prize so that we could distribute 2 sets of 200RMB vouchers for their restaurant. The folks form the Expat Show Beijing (4 – 6 April 2008) were also there promoting the show and for yes we will be at the show. Look for us in the Associations Village. In addition to our faithful volunteer photographer the City Weekend photographer was also busy recoding the event for their archives.
